About

Nic West is a contemporary abstract artist based on the remote, small island of Alderney (close to northern France).

Leaving behind a conventional life, she sold her personal belongings and relocated to the island. Initially living in a dilapidated building above a historic fort surrounded by the sea, she developed a deep connection to the coastal landscape.

Sea, storms, and coastal textures, influence her paintings. Working intuitively her process includes application of heat and abrasion to reveal hidden layers, reflecting the changing forces of the natural environment.

Nic’s work has been shortlisted for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition (London) and was the subject of a solo exhibition at CCA Galleries International (Jersey) (sharing gallery space with limited editions by Damien Hirst and Sir Peter Blake).
